After 20 months in Japan, I figured out how to type in Japanese on my Western style keyboard. It's pretty difficult, so I'll write a FAQ for everyone.
Q: How do I go from writing in English letters to writing in Japanese characters?
A: Hit ALT-SHIFT
Great. Now I can write bad words and what not without having to use a translation program, cut and paste, blah blah blah.
